First Shots - Identity Uncovered
London, 28 Oct 2010
In celebration of Black History Month, Channel 4 joined forces with Media Trust to offer 16-25 year olds the chance to make a short film. We were looking for underrepresented voices, from any ethnic background, and people that wouldn't usually get a chance to make a film.
Those judged to have the best 10 ideas were selected by a high profile panel and received filmmaking training and the support of an industry professional mentor to bring their creative idea to life.
Check out the videos below to see the fruits of their labour – each one with a unique take on black history. We've also got some exclusive behind the scenes footage looking at the process from beginning to end.
Winners:
Lara Akinnawo - They Have Not Stayed Silent
Awan James - Means To Me
Hannah Dennison - Black I.D
Adeyemi Michael - Stand Up For Africa
Karinah Turner - Routes
Ali Can Balaban - Soul Food 2 Go
Hayley Reid - Sister Survival
Marie-Solange Ndeley - Unwritten Griots
