About BAFTA Young Game Designers:
BAFTA Young Game Designers in association with Electronic Arts is an exciting competition for 11-16 year-olds. Teams of three are invited to come up with an idea for a new video game, and the winning team will be announced at BAFTA's glittering Children's Awards in London in November. The prize includes work experience with professional game designers at Bright Light, an EA studio, and a working prototype of the winning entry developed with Abertay University. The closing date for the competition is Monday 24 October 2011. To enter, visit www.bafta.org/ygd
BAFTA Young Game Designers is part of the national games and visual effects skills initiative supported by NESTA.
About the workshop:
On Monday 10th October BAFTA, in partnership with Channel 4, hosted simultaneous workshops (via Skype) in London and Accrington to support the BAFTA Young Game Designers' competition. Check out our clips below to get some handy hints from our experts!
Students from Hammersmith Academy, The Bridge Academy in Hackney, Accrington Academy, Salford City Academy and Manchester Academy gained an insight into how games are made from Jo Twist of Channel 4, Rob Davis of Playniac, Arthur Parsons of TT Games (makers of the LEGO Harry Potter games) and Jamie Cason of Miniclip. They also presented their own game ideas back to the experts, and got some valuable tips on their entries to the BAFTA Young Game Designers competition. The compere for the event was TV presenter Nigel Clarke.
